What do you do to get creative?
Creativity is the base of most poetry. Poet Angela Pieta came to Hillbrook to visit our Aspire English class. Angela gave us some great tips on creativity and how to use it in poetry, she also performed some poems. Angela showed us some activities to get our minds going, we had to pretend we were experts in random topics, and make up facts about that topic for our small groups.

Last week, I visited the Brisbane writer’s festival along with my Aspire class and we saw Anisa Nandaula at a slam poetry author talk. Anisa moved to Australia from Sudan, Africa when she was just beginning high school. Anisa has many poems that she wrote about Australia and Africa the perspective of an African-Australian woman. Anisa conveyed the powerful message of why. “What is your why,” she would say, “why do you write poetry, think about that.”. This question brought forward many answers, “Peace,” one person said, “world hunger,” said another. This got me thinking about my why. What do I believe in so strongly that I can convey in my poetry?

This week, I have decided to start poetry riddles! This is where I find poetic riddles and post one on each blog. The answer for the riddle will be on the next blog. Here is the first:
I can be all colours of the rainbow, Or I can have no colour at all. Sometimes I’m empty, Sometimes I’m full. What am I?
